The impact of drug misuse on health in the South West,
1996-2001

The South West Public Health Observatory (SWPHO) commissioned this report in February 2001, to gauge the scale of problem drug misuse and associated illnesses in the region. The information contained will assist in planning services and allocating resources to help tackle these problems. A useful baseline has also been established against which to evaluate the effectiveness of future services.

The Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust (AWP) carried out the work in partnership with the Research Centre in Public Health and Primary Care Development at the University of the West of England (UWE).
