Brief Description of job:

The post holder will be part of a small team supporting the Director of the South West Public Health Observatory in developing and delivering the work programme of the South West Public Health Observatory.  Particular responsibilities include taking the lead on the continuing development and use of geographical information systems (GIS) at the Public Health Observatory, continuing the development and implementation of an injury surveillance system within the South West, handling enquiries and undertaking analysis and interpretation of data.

  Brief Description of Person Specification: 

The ideal candidate should have experience in using GIS for spatial analysis using socio-economic small area data, and should also have knowledge of the main data flows in Public Health, the NHS and other organisations impacting on public health.  An in depth understanding of the principles and limitations of spatial and statistical analysis is essential, along with good interpretation and presentation skills.

 The postholder will also be required to determine, negotiate and direct their own work programme, and communicate effectively with tact and diplomacy with a wide range of organisations and partners, ranging from Primary Care Trusts to the Office of National Statistics.
